Frog Books launches Urban
Voices, two other books

Mumbai, November 2003:
Frog Books, a Mumbai-based publishing house, has released three
books: Urban Voices – Essays from the Indian Subcontinent
(edited by Sunil K Poolani; Under a Quicksilver Moon, a
poetry collection by Abhilash Warrier; and A New Friend, a
novella by Spanish writer and painter Nacho Blanco.
At a well-attended function at the
Press Club, Mumbai, the books were launched by Nikhil Wagle, eminent
journalist and editor of Mahanagar. Krishna Raj, editor of
The Economic and Political Weekly and a BD Goenka Award-winner,
accepted the first copies.
In his inaugural address, Wagle spoke
about how small publishing houses are breaking new grounds. “In this
context what Frog Books has achieved in this short span of time of
its existence is commendable. Frog Books’ is a bold initiative — to
promote news voices, new talent.”
Urban Voices has contributions
from Ramachandra Guha, Dilip Chitre, Dilip D’Souza, Aakar Patel, V
Gangadhar, Margaret Mascarenhas, Aditha Dissanayake, Rohit Gupta,
Rehan Ansari, Kiron Kasbekar, Meena Menon, Sevanti Ninan, Frederick
Noronha, Dilip Raote, Kalpish Ratna, C P Surendran and Suma
Varughese.
Two of the writers in the volume —
Dilip D’Souza and Rohit Gupta — read out from their contributions
from the book, which was followed by a poetry reading by Abhilash
Warrier, a debutante.
Those who attended the meet included
former bureaucrat J B D’Souza, writer and columnist Dilip Raote,
American writer Janet Fine and journalist and writer Derek Bose. The
event was compeered by senior journalist Harish Nambiar. Sunil K
Poolani, the publisher of Frog Books, gave the vote of thanks.
