A Peter Conners Book Published!

FootHills Publishing is proud to announce the publication of Peter Conner's
While in the World

a hand-stitched, full-length 76 page paperback with spine.

Peter Conners is co-editor of the Web del Sol publication, Double Room: A Journal of Prose Poetry & Flash
Fiction. His own fiction and poetry appear regularly in literary journals. He has received two Poems of
Social Concern awards from Black Bear Publications, and a short-short fiction award from the literary
journal Salt Hill. He founded New Visions Programs in Rochester, NY, and oversees the New Visions
Reading Series, Park Avenue Broadside Series, and 1000 Words Writing Workshops.

Peter says of the collection:

In her essay, The News From Poetry (NY Times Book Review, May 11, 2003), Margo Jefferson asks, " As
for the question of poetry's role in the public realm, why does the United States seem to be the only
country in which artists still argue about whether politics can coexist with aesthetic complexity? It can."
The poems that make up While in the World represent six years of poetic probing into those sensitive areas
where language confronts the political, social, and personal realities of American life. Rolling across style
and content with little regard for the conventions - and, indeed, the politics - of contemporary poetry, this
collection uses whatever insight, style, trope, image, etc. necessary to ignite new directions of thought. To
instigate. Inflame. Devour. Renew. Magnify. Explode. Rectify.  While in the World puts the life and language
of modern America into a literary blender and hits frappe: Drink deep, this is nourishment.

What others say:

In While in the World, Peter Conners' crisp ideas, nimble assertions and surprising resistances are

effortlessly balanced against his snap, crack and pop music. The result is intoxicating. " Never trust the
hand that bites you/once retracted/it will do it again." This is what compelling art does - it jumps up and
bites you. In both poems and prose, Conners gives us a good nip and we walk away happy.

- Thom Ward, author of Various Orbits

A thunder of pulsating words and razor-sharp images cohesively fuse into a vigorous and potent
mosaic of contemporary writing in While in the World. This organic and indomitable collection is undeniably
a blast for the senses. Peter Conners is fully aware of the power of contemporary language, and
demonstrates his ability to command phrases to stand for an agile and emphatic growl. He incessantly
allows his reader to participate in a healthy taste of foresight, and does not deny poetic flavors, social
consciousness, or acute realism.

- Ave Jeanne, Editor, Black Bear Review

>From the book:

While in the World

we walked in your garden
  trees fat with pregnant plums
green apples wide mint leaves - the mint
     leaves you plucked pressed
between two fingers - inhaled - and still
  wedged between teeth & tongue
they lasted only moments, grandfather
