Dear Kamran,

I think an Afghanistan Centre is a wonderful idea. Surely there are many oppressed but talented writers over there who are only just starting to look for a market and it is great that you are willing to provide them with one. Such a war torn country needs art and writing to inspire the people and give them strength.
I think a place to house refugee writers is an even better idea. Writers need safe surroundings to work in and I think it's a great tragedy that my Government instead locks them up in prisons. A better way needs to be established. I've met some of the people that have escaped to Australia from various countries and heard of the atrocities inflicted on them and their families. It offends me that after all they've suffered, my Government can find no other alternative but to lock them up inflicting further pain on people who have lost too much already.
I wish you well in your quest.
Thanking you

Belinda Elgar
